Frequently asked questions
What should I attach to a freight invoice so the broker pays it?
Most brokers want the invoice sent with the signed bill of lading (proof of delivery) and the rate confirmation for that load. Put the load or trip number and BOL number on the invoice so they line up with the paperwork, and email everything together. Missing or mismatched documents are the most common reason a trucking invoice gets held up.
How do I invoice per mile versus a flat rate?
Both work on the same template. For a flat rate, add one line for the line haul with the agreed amount. For per-mile pay, put the miles as the quantity and your rate per mile as the unit price, and the template calculates the line total. Add the fuel surcharge and any accessorials as separate lines so the broker sees the full breakdown.
How does this work with a factoring company?
If you factor your invoices, you still create the invoice the same way, but you send it to the factoring company instead of collecting from the broker yourself.
