You bought something on Amazon and now you need the invoice — for an expense report, a reimbursement, tax records, or a warranty claim. Here is exactly how to get it, for every scenario.
This works for most orders fulfilled by Amazon directly.
Step 1 — Log in and click "Returns & Orders." That button sits in the top-right corner of any Amazon page, next to your cart icon.
Step 2 — Find the order. Your orders are listed newest-first. Use the search bar or the date filter (drop-down on the right) to narrow down if you have a long history.
Step 3 — Click "Invoice." On most orders you will see an "Invoice" link directly in the order row. Click it.
Step 4 — If no "Invoice" link shows, click "Order Details." That opens the full order summary. Scroll down to the "Order Summary" or "Payment Information" block — the invoice link is usually there.
Step 5 — The invoice opens as a PDF in a new browser tab. From there you can save it (File → Save) or print it (see the printing section below).
The IRS recommends keeping receipts and invoices for all business expenses. See What kinds of records should I keep? on IRS.gov for the full guidance on how long to retain them.
Once the invoice is open in your browser:
Name the file with the order number and date (e.g., amazon-invoice-112-3456789-2026.pdf) so it is easy to find later. Keep a folder organized by month or year if you buy from Amazon regularly for business purposes.
If your organization uses Amazon Business, the invoicing flow is more powerful.
Business invoices are generated automatically for qualifying purchases. To access them:
Additional Amazon Business features worth knowing:
| Feature | Where to find it |
|---|---|
| Bulk invoice export | Business Analytics → Export → Invoice history |
| Tax-exempt purchasing | Account Settings → Tax Exemption |
| Approval workflows | Business Settings → Purchasing Policies |
| Consolidated invoices | Some enrolled organizations receive monthly consolidated invoices by email |
If your company is not yet on Amazon Business and you buy frequently for work, it is worth enrolling — the reporting and invoice-management tools are significantly better than a standard account.
Not every Amazon order ships from Amazon's own warehouse. Third-party sellers list and fulfill many products, and their invoicing works differently.
Check first — many third-party invoices are already there. Follow the standard Returns & Orders flow. If the seller integrated their system with Amazon's invoicing, you will see a downloadable invoice just like an Amazon-fulfilled order.
If no invoice appears, contact the seller directly:
Most sellers are happy to provide one — it costs them nothing and it is a normal business request. If a seller does not respond within a few days, escalate via Amazon Customer Service with your order ID.
A note on VAT invoices: If you are shopping on a non-US Amazon marketplace (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, etc.), those platforms operate under VAT regimes and sellers are often required to provide a VAT invoice. That requirement does not apply to US Amazon purchases, which are governed by state and local sales tax rules instead.
Digital orders follow the same general path with one extra filter step:
For Prime Video rentals and Kindle purchases the document is more of a purchase confirmation than a traditional invoice, but it shows the item, price, and date — enough for most reimbursement or expense purposes.
Invoice not showing up yet? Invoices on some orders are generated only after the item is marked as delivered, not when you place the order. Wait 24–48 hours after delivery.
"Invoice" link is greyed out or missing entirely. This happens most often with:
Invoice shows but the numbers look wrong. Compare with the "Order Summary" section on your order details page. If there is a discrepancy after a return or partial refund, the invoice may not yet reflect the adjustment — check again in a day or two, or contact Amazon Customer Service.
Bulk download needed. Amazon does not offer a native one-click bulk download for all invoices. The fastest workaround is to open each order individually and save the PDF. Amazon Business accounts have a bulk export option in Business Analytics (see the table in the Amazon Business section above).
This guide is about retrieving Amazon invoices as a buyer. If you are a seller or freelancer who needs to create and send invoices to your own clients, that is a different task — our free invoice generator handles it in a few minutes, no account required. You can also start from a free invoice template for Google Docs if you prefer working in a familiar format.

Does Amazon provide invoices?
Yes. Amazon generates an invoice for most orders. Find it by going to Returns & Orders, selecting the order, and clicking Invoice on the order details page. Not every order type generates a downloadable invoice — digital purchases and some third-party seller orders may only show an order confirmation until you request one from the seller.
How do I get a printable invoice from Amazon?
Open the order in Returns & Orders, click Invoice, and when the invoice PDF opens in your browser, use your browser's print menu (Ctrl+P or Cmd+P) and choose Save as PDF or select your printer. The result is a clean, printable document showing the item, price, tax, and seller details.
How do I get a tax invoice from an Amazon third-party seller?
Go to Your Orders, find the order, and click Contact Seller. Ask the seller to send a formal invoice or receipt to your email. Most sellers respond within 24–48 hours. If the seller does not respond, contact Amazon Customer Service and reference the order ID.
Can I get an invoice for a gift order?
Gift orders intentionally omit price details from the packing slip, but the full invoice is still in your account. Go to Your Orders, find the order, and follow the standard steps — the invoice is visible only to the buyer, not the recipient, and it shows the full price breakdown.
What should I do if no invoice is available for my Amazon order?
First, wait 24–48 hours after delivery — invoices sometimes generate after the item ships or is marked delivered. If it still does not appear, message the seller via Contact Seller on the order page. As a last resort, contact Amazon Customer Service with your order ID and they can supply a transaction record.
